Easter Oratorio; Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei and Dona nobis pacem from Mass in B minor

The Easter Oratorio, composed in 1725, tells the story of the first Easter Sunday and offers a contrast to the anguish of Bach’s Passions. Using music originally composed for a birthday cantata; sometimes joyful; sometimes poignant; this is Bach at his most skilful.

Described as ‘the greatest musical work of all time’ and ‘spectacular and sizzling’ the Mass in B minor is one of Bach’s supreme achievements. Started in 1733 and completed in 1749 it spans the later years of Bach’s life and represents the epitome of Bach’s creativity and technical brilliance.

Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and Bournemouth Chamber Orchestra are joined by soloists:

Eleanor Pennell-Briggs – Soprano

Beth Taylor – Mezzo Soprano

Daniel Gray Bell – Tenor

Thomas Humphreys – Baritone

With

Gavin Carr – Conductor
